Biodynamics in Viticulture

Back to the Essence of Earth
ALPA is dedicated to excellence and innovation in the art of Corsican winemaking; harmony with nature is a constant prism to this ideal.
The best combination of terroir and grape variety guides my upstream selection work. In this quest, biodynamic viticulture takes precedence.
Biodynamics is an agricultural approach that goes beyond organic, transcending conventional methods to create “astronomically” natural wines.

WHAT IS BIODYNAMICS?
ᨏ
Biodynamics is much more than just a cultivation method; it is a sustainable way of life that harmonizes natural cycles and cosmic forces to create a natural balance in vineyards.
This approach naturally used by our ancestors was theorized by an Austrian philosopher, Rudolf Steiner, at the beginning of the 20th century.
ᨏ

RUDOLF STEINER
Rudolf Steiner, founder of anthroposophy, presented the principles of biodynamics in a series of lectures in 1924.
His holistic vision inspired a paradigm shift in agriculture, introducing practices that respect the earth as an interconnected living organism.

MY COMMITMENT
TO BIODYNAMICS
The fundamental principles of biodynamics include the use of natural preparations, the synchronization of agricultural activities with lunar and planetary phases, and the consideration of cosmic influences on plant growth.
ALPA and her winegrowers, draw inspiration from these principles to grow & make wine and even organize tastings, in interconnection with nature.
🐝 🐝 🐝
I notice that biodynamics often allows us to express the best of each grape variety and each terroir.
By embracing this approach, I am committed to creating wines that reflect the purity of nature and the diversity of our Corsican lands, still preserved from pollution and full of endemic species (plants, insects, birds…)
BIODYNAMIC PRACTICES AT ALPA
Biodynamic wine, Corsica organic wine

Biodynamic Preparations : Our winegrowers use natural preparations such as cow horn compost and dynamized silica to enhance soil fertility and stimulate vine growth.
Lunar and Planetary Calendar: leaf day, fruit day, flower, root day… ever heard? By carefully following the lunar and planetary calendar, we optimize the timing of planting, pruning, and harvesting to make the most of celestial influences. We follow this calendar even for our wines tastings , a « flower day » is perfect. 🌸
Biological Diversity: Encouraging biodiversity in our vineyards is a priority. From wild patches between rows of vines to beneficial insects, every element of our ecosystem contributes to natural balance.

THE ADVANTAGES OF BIODYNAMICS
Biodynamics offers a multitude of benefits, both for vineyards and wine enthusiasts. By adopting this approach, I seek to:
Improve Wine Quality: By respecting natural cycles, we promote naturally healthier grapes, true expressions of terroir.
Keep our Environment un-polluted: Biodynamics minimizes the use of chemical inputs, thereby preserving biodiversity and soil health.
Connect our Terroir to your Glass: Every bottle of ALPA biodynamic wine bears the full imprint of its terroir, capturing the essence of its environment.
